Positional requirements

Coaches and selectors should use the same set of positional criteria when selecting their team. This will ensure consistency of selection, consistency of message between coach and assistant coach and aid feedback on de-selection from coach to players.

Coaches should conduct their own functional role analysis to establish the criteria which they will base their selection upon. These criteria should then be shared with the players to ensure the whole squad knows how their performance will be assessed during a game.

To guide you on this, the positional requirements of each position are proposed below. (Note - these are only a guide and are not exhaustive).
